SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR OF HOUSTON (SEFH)
The Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH) is a non-profit educational organization providing educational services for students in grades 7 through 12. The annual event serves as a regional fair for Harris County and 22 surrounding counties, and typically occurs in February. Students are given the opportunity to present a scientific or engineering project encouraging them to apply their math and sciences skills outside of the classroom. As part of the WEAT Southeast Section scholarship program and in collaboration with TAWWA-SE, a group of volunteers helped judge student projects on a wide range of water topics.
Six students are selected as winners for the regional US Stockholm Junior Water Prize Award, the world’s most prestigious youth award for water-related science projects. This year’s winners and their associated science projects are presented below:
Senior Awards
First Place – Groundwater Prediction Model using Artificial Intelligence
Second Place – Developing a Neural Network for the Observation of Plant Hydration
Third Place – Accuracy of Optical Brightening Detection in Different Water Types
Junior Awards
First Place – Hot Sh*t
Second Place – From Cloud to Clear!
Third Place – The Effects of Different Substances In A Homemade Water Filter On Pond Water
Thank you to our volunteers!
